psycho- Hitchcock

Hitchocks films are some of the most extraordinary films every produced. He is a master of suspense and horror, although not much gore is shown, he still manages to make the audience jump out of their seat.

The fact that he produced Psycho in black and white in the time when coloured movies were invented made the movie more original and also since a lot of blood was used they did not have a problem with getting the right colour to make it more realistic.
He was the first director the use a change of scary music in the killing scene creating more of a terrifying feeling. The fact that Hitchcock 'killed' his main part was a very daring decision to make because it was out of the ordinary a shock to the viewers which might have resulted to a bad rating on the movie. But he managed to pull the act off and it was a grave success.

In the dinner scene, the psycho talks about how sick his mother is in a very sympathising way, and when he is talking about his mother saying, 'But she's harmless.. she's as harmless as one of those stuffed birds', we get the feeling that something is very wrong.

The scene where we find out the truth about the mother is very confusing for the viewers as we were not expecting him to be dressed up as his mother.

now the last scene clarified everything that went on in the whole film. In my opinion one of the  best parts was when the camera is on him and the mother is talking through him and she says,'Let them see what kind of a person i am, i'm not even gonna swat that fly, i hope they are watching. They'll see, they'll see and they'll know, and they'll say,"why she wouldn't even harm a fly"'
it was a very exquisite pun to end the film.

Inspiration: Michael hussar, Acrylics

these two images are my interpretations of my favorite artists, Santiago Caruso and Michael Hussar. I copied one of Hussar's work and changed it a bit. i did this because i love how he uses so much white in his paintings and still manages to make his pictures look gory. his work is quite life like with a mix of fantasy. His work is very inspiring and he is a very unique artist.

Santiago Caruso is also a very inspiring artist, he uses charcoal thus uses a lot of black emphasizing death. His pictures show a lot of conflict, they are usually fantasy related and not too much on the life like side. he inspires me because he comes up these mythological creatures which i love to look at.

Santiago Caruso

He is a symbolist and surrealist illustrator whose work is an avant-garde concept which is still rooted in the 19th century. He draws magnificant pieces of work which portray all sorts of different emotion, conflict isa good example of some of his work.

He dedicated his work to horror, supernatural, fantasy, suspence, as well as essay and poetry.
His work is very original and dull, which fits in with the theme of 'conflict' perfectly. His work stand out for its vigor as well as its technique which outstanding.

His work has a lot of meaning to it if you pay attention to the detail and what it is telling trying to tell you.

In the first picture (Irom MaidenII) Caruso is most likely to be depicting ones inner self which most people keep hidden away, be it good or bad. The colours he used inflict death and enhance the gore coming from the nude figure inside the clothed woman.

In the second picture (unknown) Caruso portrays a monster who seems to be pulling on a mans tendons or nerves which are making him scream in agony.

In the third picture (unknown) Caruso depicts the life and death scenario; whereby no one can live forever as death will always follow you where ever you go no matter how rich, successful or noble you are.

Silent Hill

The black soot in the beginning and the fog inflicts fear,
the colours used are very dull and morbid and the music is very old based and puts the viewers on edge.
The sirens which were initially used in war to warn people that a raid was coming, was used in this film to wan the people that the monsters are coming. Also the use of old footage makes viewers uneasy and gives them a sense of foreboding and foreshadowing. The graphics are extraordinary in this move and the whole film is very well done. It is a very evil an dark film which shows a lot of conflict.

In brief, the whole story is about how Rose Da Silva (Radha Mitchel) goes into Silent Hill to find her daughter Sharon(Jodelle Ferland). But little did she know, Sharon literally had a split personality who was called Alessa. Later on in the story we find out that Alessa was tortured by Christabella (Alice Krige)who was one of the founders of the church in that town. Rose does everything in her power to get Sharon back and in the end she finally does. but unfortunately  they never leave Silent Hill and are trapped in another world.

Also the costume used for Alessa is very old looking and vintage, it fits well for her part. It is also very interesting how the Pyramid Heads costume is like a butcher apron. I shall definitely keep them in mind for my final piece.

Michael Hussar

Amazing colour scheme which shows a great amount of conflict.

He describes his work as-"a voyeuristic snapshot of perceived humanity, complete with freaks and fakery; a gothic wonderland illuminating the gray area between truths and lies."

Quote found at: http://beinart.org/artists/michael-hussar/

Michael Hussar uses a vast amount of white in his paintings which together with some browns yellows and reds, bring out conflict and somewhat harmony in his pictures. He inspires me very much in the fact that his work is based on the need for answers.
He paints both stufmato art and chiaroscuro art which is very interesting and highlights his work.
